Amazon RDS with OrchestrAI

Catalog exported 2026-09-02

Operate Amazon RDS and Aurora from chat: create, snapshot, modify, proxy, and monitor database instances.

OrchestrAI exposes 13 RDS operations: 6 are low-risk (read-only or low-impact), 6 create or modify resources and run only after you confirm the plan, and 1 is destructive and requires a typed risk phrase. 3 of them also carry a step-level approval gate.

What teams use it for

Teams use OrchestrAI to create an RDS instance or Aurora cluster in a subnet group, take a manual snapshot before a schema migration, turn on Multi-AZ or extend backup retention, set up an RDS Proxy for connection pooling, and describe instances to check status and endpoints. Modifying an instance waits for your confirmation, and deleting one is critical risk with a typed risk phrase. Restoring from a snapshot, rebooting, and stopping or starting an instance are not available yet, so those still go through the console.

Every RDS operation, with its risk level

Amazon RDS operations available through OrchestrAI
Operation What it does Risk Step-level approval
Create DB Event Subscription Create an RDS event subscription for notifications Low risk No
Create DB Subnet Group Create an RDS DB subnet group Low risk No
Create RDS DB Subnet Group Create a DB subnet group for RDS instances Low risk No
Create RDS Parameter Group Create a DB parameter group for customizing database engine settings Low risk No
Create RDS Snapshot Create a manual DB snapshot of an RDS instance Low risk No
Describe RDS Instances Get information about RDS database instances Low risk No
Create Aurora Cluster Instance Create an instance within an Aurora DB cluster Creates resources No
Create Aurora DB Cluster Create an Amazon Aurora database cluster (serverless or provisioned) Creates resources No
Create DB Instance (Terraform-style) Create an RDS database instance (Terraform resource name) Creates resources Yes
Create RDS Instance Create a new Amazon RDS database instance Creates resources No
Create RDS Proxy Create an RDS Proxy for connection pooling and failover Creates resources No
Modify RDS Instance Modify an RDS database instance settings including backup, monitoring, and multi-AZ Creates resources Yes
Delete RDS Instance Delete an Amazon RDS database instance Destructive Yes

Risk tiers come from the catalog: low is read-only or low-impact, medium creates resources and is reversible, high modifies existing resources, destructive may lose data. Every plan that creates or changes resources is shown with its cost estimate and waits for your confirmation. Operations marked with a step-level approval pause again on their own step. Destructive operations require a typed risk phrase.

Prompts that work

  • Create a manual snapshot of prod-orders in us-east-1 named prod-orders-pre-migration
  • Enable Multi-AZ and set backup retention to 14 days on the prod-orders RDS instance
  • Create an Aurora PostgreSQL serverless cluster called analytics-aurora with one instance in the db-subnets subnet group

Before anything runs

Every mutation shows its plan, cost estimate, and blast radius, then waits for your confirmation. Destructive operations require a typed risk phrase. Credentials are minted per run through OIDC federation and discarded afterward; nothing you create here is invisible later, because every resource lands in the desired-state ledger where drift is detected and can be converged. Frequently asked questions

Can OrchestrAI restore an RDS instance from a snapshot?
No, it can create snapshots, but restore is not among the current operations, so use the console for recovery.
How does OrchestrAI protect against accidental RDS deletion?
Deleting an instance is critical risk. The plan shows the instance and its blast radius, and you must confirm and type the risk phrase before it runs.
Which RDS operations need an extra approval step?
3 operations carry a step-level approval gate on top of plan confirmation: Create DB Instance (Terraform-style), Delete RDS Instance, Modify RDS Instance. One of these is classed destructive and cannot run without a typed risk phrase.
